Design a bridge

Today we looked at different kinds of bridges, some have wires, some have arches and some have towers. We tried to make a bridge using a sheet of paper between towers of blocks. We discovered that the bridge was too weak with just paper so somebody decided that we needed to use something stronger as the road over the bridge. Here are the things we tried and the results we got:

The lid of the block container............................ very strong

Paper by itself....................................................very weak

Paper with the sides turned up........................... very strong

Paper with an arch under it.................................very strong

Card .................................................................weak

Move the tower blocks a little closer and use the card................................strong

We know that all plants and flowers and bulbs need water to grow. Yesterday we gave our flowers a huge drink of water because we won't be in school to feed them for a long time.Teacher will pop in next week to give them more water ....

Art and Craft

We have been learning about the artist Kandinsky. We loved his work called
Farbstudie Quadrante and so we decided to make our own version!

Visit from Guzzler

On Monday a puppet called Guzzler came to our class. He taught us how to save energy. He told us to put on extra cothes instead of having the heating on full time. He told us that food gives us energy.

Here is some work from our notice boards in our class. We have been very busy- learning words from our reading books/ learning the Irish words for various clothes/ painting and cutting penguins etc.
We were learning about when we were babies and some children sent in photos of what they looked like as babies, they are so cute!

We are learning about 2D shapes.... circles, square, rectangles, ovals, triangles. Look at the pictures we made using shapes.

Taste test

We tasted sweeet, salty and sour foods. Teacher bought us salted popcorn, sour lemons and our favourite thing.... jellies. Look our faces and guess by our faces what food we are eating....

Bubble Show

During Science Week we went to see a Bubble Show. The man came to our halla with lots of gadgets.... a huge bucket of bubble solution, different sized and shaped wands, and a smoke machine. He taught us about bubbles and how no matter what shape the wand is the bubble will always be a sphere shape. He blew smoke into the inside of a bubble and even put his hand inside one.
